Allyn Pivar, PsyD
Dr. Ali Pivar is a New York State licensed psychologist who has had a lifelong interest in mental health and well-being, emotional development, and interpersonal relationships. She completed her doctoral training at Pace University in the School-Clinical-Child PsyD program where she worked with adults in an outpatient university clinic and with children and adolescents in schools, inpatient hospitals, and outpatient clinics. After completing her doctorate she participated in two NIH funded research studies providing dyadic and group therapy for children in foster care before transitioning into private practice.
While working from a psychodynamic perspective, Dr. Pivar integrates mindfulness, cognitive behavioral, and interpersonal techniques tailoring her approach to the individual needs of each patient. She works with children and adults in individual and group therapy and believes the most important aspect of therapy is the collaborative relationship between patient and therapist. This relationship fosters trust and allows patients to feel comfortable exploring their inner world without judgment. Growth and change occur when we can bring awareness inward and explore with neutral curiosity. Dr. Pivar’s research interests include early attachment, trauma and PTSD, and mind-body medicine. She is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Brooklyn Psychological Association.
