Ida Piker, Psy.D.

Dr. Ida Piker is joining the Interactive Discovery team this fall as a post-doctoral fellow. She received her doctoral training from Pace University’s School-Clinical Child Psychology program in New York City. Dr. Piker completed her clinical internship at Sagamore Children’s Psychiatric Center, where she worked in both the adolescent psychiatric inpatient setting in Dix Hills, NY, and the outpatient school clinic setting in Farmingville, NY.

Throughout her doctoral training, Dr. Piker's focus was on working with children, adolescents, young adults, and families. Her experience spans various settings, including community clinics, elementary and high schools, adolescent residential facilities, and adolescent inpatient hospitals.

Dr. Piker’s passion lies in working with children and their families. She is deeply committed to collaborating with parents to create a nurturing and supportive family life that aligns with the family’s culture, values, and community.

Dr. Piker utilizes a trauma-informed perspective, integrating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and psychodynamic modalities. She places high importance on building a strong therapeutic relationship so clients can feel deeply connected while exploring their emotions. By collaborating with clients to set practical goals, she recognizes their strengths as foundational to overcoming challenges and building resilience. This positive and empowering therapeutic style is a hallmark of Dr. Piker's practice. For those hesitant to discuss psychological issues, Dr. Piker uses play, art, and physical activity within trauma-informed psychotherapy. Her integrative method aids clients in developing coping strategies, processing unresolved emotions, and linking thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and past experiences.

Dr. Piker specializes in providing personalized, neurodiversity-affirming, and LGBTQ+-inclusive treatment. She supported children, teens, and young adults experiencing depression, anxiety, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). At Sagamore Children’s Psychiatric Center, Dr. Piker supported some of the most vulnerable children on Long Island, providing trauma-informed individual, family, and group therapy in the adolescent inpatient psychiatric hospital for youth with emerging personality disorders, psychosis, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), social skill challenges, depression, and anxiety. While working in Sagamore’s outpatient BOCES elementary school clinic, Dr. Piker provided trauma-based psychotherapy, parent training, family therapy, behavior management and consultation, play therapy, and case management services to elementary school students with autism spectrum disorder and emotional and behavioral dysregulation.
